On Manuel Araneta Roxas in 2016

This is for journaling my thoughts:
On why Mar Roxas:

13103425_10208988690172155_5465102145265168489_n

1. Character/Credibility – He is of the Roxas-Araneta clan – a son of the late Gerry Roxas who also suffered during the Martial Law days. Being rich and part of the elite is not a minus -since he is impervious to the temptations of riches.Though part of the elite -in his stint at Congress and Senate -he has been known to fight against pharmaceutical and pre-need big business in order to serve the many. He has never been connected any corruptions issues ( MRT ? Ask Sobrepena and Vitangcol instead) (Nickel Mining -he is transaprent about his friendship wiht the owners of SR Nickel -a legitimate mining firm). Though not a born-again Christian -he is a devout Catholic -which rarely drags the name of God in public -just in order to gain by it. He is following the Christian Democrat political philosophy -that though not a pure free market/minimal government intervention in the market -is better than pure interventionist and socialist philosophy .

2. Competence/Confidence – He is a BS Economics graduate of Wharton-Pennsylvania , A national department secretary for 3 Phils president – DTI, DOTC and DILG. Former congressman and senator of the republic. The only candidate who held such national position which was trained by adversary during the many typhoons that passed us -especially Yolanda , and the many crisis in our nation’s history -like Zamboanga siege and Mamasapano debacle . He passed so much bills and ,made so many self-sustaining programs -that affects us citizens -that we even failed to acknowledge his efforts here.

3. Connections/Creativity – He is once the party chairman of the Liberal party -in a country of turncoats. Though others may think we can run the country as independents -he has not forgotten that we need accountability and discipline in order to reach and focus on national goals and aspirations. He is known to be a team player -even when the situation pressured him to be a one-man committee. His lineage means he knows those people who maybe able to contribute thie gifts, talents and trainings for nationwide building. He has even a wife whose heart is into public service- Ms Korina Sanchez-Roxas.

4. Courage/Commitment/Compassion -Even with all the garbage and accusations thrown his way -he remains working for the Filipino. Even if he has to go against 2 presidents -he has done it to protect the common good. Even if he has to risk his life in situations -already too near the danger or the conflict (Tacloban and Zamboanga). Even with a job already in New York -he left it to be a part of the new government under the late Pres Cory.

5. Communication/Critical Thinking -we have seen during the 3 presidential debates -only him has the coherent programs and how-to’s. he has been able to do the counter-arguement when they mobbed him during the 2nd debate. Even though he can speak in English fluently – he strives to communicate his ideas in Tagalog or Visayan dialect.

And lastly -when I read these verses , after the Lord Jesus Christ, -it is only him among the 5 – that I am able to think of -others are deficient in some areas, others are totally contrary to it:

1 Timothy 2: 1-3 (Peaceful,Quiet,Godly and Dignified)
1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,

Luke 3: 10 ( Compassion, not cheating nor extorting)
10 And the crowds asked him, “What then shall we do?”
11 And he answered them, “Whoever has two tunics <Note:Greek `chiton`, a long garment worn under the cloak next to the skin> is to share with him who has none, and whoever has food is to do likewise.”
12 Tax collectors also came to be baptized and said to him, “Teacher, what shall we do?”
13 And he said to them, “Collect no more than you are authorized to do.”
14 Soldiers also asked him, “And we, what shall we do?” And he said to them, “Do not extort money from anyone by threats or by false accusation, and be content with your wages.”

Romans 13 -whole chapter -( Law-abiding and Minister of God for good)
6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing.
7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.
8 Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law.
9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

Philippians 3: (Think about what is good and honorable)
5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand;
6 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Think About these Things: CONCERN AND CONTENTMENT

I shared the Word to San Pedro CRC last March 16, 2014 on these topic. This is the first time I only made an outline of the message instead of the full text :

PHIL 4:8-23

Redemptive/Fallen condition Focus:
1. May dwell on negatives instead on the good things from God
2. May experience stinginess and insensitivity in helping church workers instead of being generous and open hearted.

Intro :

Slide4

What stories, values are expressed, reminded, remembered? Besides improbable scenarios and repeated formulas

Dwell on negatives, wrong perspectives, kill time

Need for better use of time.

Outline: Think, Be Concern to and Be Contented

Read:
1. Think on These Things
8Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Slide7
Not about yoga or TM or sitting and breathing somewhere else
Amidst real life and ministry challenges

Slide8

What are we supposed to be thinking?
Slide9

1. “True” (alethe) means valid, honest, and reliable (cf. Rom. 3:4).
2.”Honorable” or “noble” (semna) means worthy of respect (cf. Prov. 8:6; 1
Tim. 3:8, 11; Titus 2:2).
3. “Just” (dikaia) refers to what is just and upright.
4.”Pure” (hagna) denotes cleanness and connotes moral purity.
5. “Lovely” (prosphile) means what is amiable, agreeable, or pleasing.
Beethoven symphony, Doing good for Tacloban
6. “Commendable” or “admirable” (euphema) refers to what is praiseworthy
because it measures up to the highest standards.
This is not mere abstract virtues –common among non-believers –but this refers to:

Phils 4: 9What you have learned and w received and heard and seen x in me—practice these things, and y the God of peace will be with you.

Context is –as a summary of what he taught in life to them:

Slide11

Comment: Peace? Does not come in disobedience

Slide12

a. Partnership in the Gospel

Example is that the Caesar’s household is reach by the Gospel:
21Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. q The brothers who are with me greet you. 22 r All the saints greet you, especially those of Caesar’s household.
23 s The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit.

b. To Live is Christ
c. Mind of Christ
d. Righteousness in Christ
e. Maturity in Christ
f. Being One in Christ
But there is one left lesson to teach –why we give?
READ:
2. Concern For…
10I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at length z you have revived your concern for me. You were indeed concerned for me, but you had no opportunity.

14Yet it was kind of you e to share [3] my trouble. 15And you Philippians yourselves know that f in the beginning of the gospel, when I left Macedonia, g no church entered into partnership with me in giving and receiving, except you only.

Slide14

A. How ? We express our concern thru sharing …

Love and not show actions? Never works that way
Courting and yet no flowers and bringing up her things? Enervon
We should give financial assistance to those who share the gospel..
There is a receiving and giving.

Not an employer –employee –but PARTNERS

Slide15

B. Why give? Need /Affliction/Pressure:

14Yet it was kind of you e to share [3] my trouble
16Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.

Pastors and missionaries are human too –clothes, daily food, transportation
Friend at ATS –Aung Mang –Burma –daily walk for 3-4 bible studies

Slide17

Why Give? It is TO GOD when we do:

[4] 18I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, j having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, k a fragrant offering, l a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.

Slide19

Paul using Temple Sacrifice language here: Fragrant offering –sacrifice acceptable.
Though Temple still standing when He wrote it –AD 70 Fall; and yet transferring it to the Mission work-spread of the Gospel…

When the heart full –it wants to give back to God what He gave..

C. How Much?
16Even in Thessalonica you sent me help for my needs once and again.
18I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, j having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent,

Slide21

Slide22

Full – Well Supplied – Paul, so he can share and share…
We should not be stingy, or tight-fisted- think of them living well –and not harried in mind- hard to pastor when family is in dire straits.
Not only once but recurring.
We eat everyday

Slide23

D. Effect on the Giver:
17 h Not that I seek the gift, but I seek i the fruit that increases to your credit.

19And my God m will supply every need of yours n according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. 20To o our God and Father be p glory forever and ever. Amen.

Paul is concern that Givers has an increase credit – when they give- and should we sharer of the Gospel- give opportunity for others to give-and be blessed by God!

But the basic return is that every necessity-food and shelter – GOD is guaranteeing the supply –whether in regular or in crises situation

According to His Riches: WOW! Not our need –but His Supply! So Give to legitimate MINISTRIES.

Slide25

OFW just went home to someone who made it BIG there

Slide26

3. Content in Whatever Situation
11Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be a content. 12I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and b hunger, abundance and c need. 13I can do all things d through him who strengthens me.

Proper attitude of recipient:

Slide28

We should not upgrade our lifestyle but remain simple. Not gusgusin- but presentable …but not luxurious…Toyota Vios –not Camry or BMW

Slide29

How? Remember Jesus Christ…Make other rich…but Himself simple and humble.

We can do more for Christ –whether with big or small resources –it depends on HIM not on what we can see or touch.

CONCLUSION:

Tyrants and Rebels

This was the message I preached at San Pedro CRC- last 2 PM pre-Christmas fellowship service -December 22, 2013.

Fallen Condition /Redemptive Focus

  1. So Christians in leadership will not be proud in their status experience or knowledge in treating their fellow brethren or those outside the church
  2. So ordinary Christians will not grumble nor complain as they do their ministries under the church leadership.
  3. For both to focus their life on emptying oneself in serving others-whether in the church or outside –just like Jesus did –and await their rewards from Him in the end.

Tacloban

Introduction :

These are the before Christmas rush-rush days –where people will buy gifts, prepare foods, activities, and make decorations and presentations. If not for the fact that some of our ‘kababayans’ were hit by Typhoon Yolanda –maybe we will be splurging all our money on gifts and food and gadgets. Now we have to rethink how we celebrate Christmas –which I think is for the better.

Slide2

Sometimes –we think we are all okay…under a veneer of something of a face that looks happy- but underneath –something is eating at us…after we became Christian or religious –we forgot- we thought we can become righteous and holy and good in the eyes of this world without referring to what God has done and is doing to us –in Jesus.

It is significant that in Christianity- that our ethics- or what we do is defined and motivated by our doctrines or teachings- meaning who God is and what He have done- and this more pronounced here Philippians 2.

It is what Jesus is and what He has done to us- Father , Son And Holy Spirit –that Apostle Paul order us with 2 basic commands: One for the tyrant- the leadership who knows everything and does not listen to anyone- and the rebel who silently cut the church from below by their complaints and grumbling. Each is a upside mirror of each other.

Outline:

1. Since …In Christ, Same Mind v. 1-2

2. Do Nothing Selfish v. 3-5

3. Form of God …Form of a servant v. 6-11

4. Work out your Salvation v.12-13

5. Do Not Grumble v.14-18

Let us read:

  1. I.           Since …In Christ, Same Mind v. 1-2

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

Paul’s command to be of one mind or same mind –which is the Mind of Christ – stems from what God has done and is doing for Christians:

  1. Union with Jesus,
  2. His comfort from His Love
  3. Participation in the Spirit
  4. Tenderness and Compassion

In simplicity –it means that Jesus loves us passionately, dearly , emotionally. If He can hug us- he will..so that we will not forget it.

This same mind means –having the same love, spirit and mind for others especially those in the household of faith. For we are all the same under Christ.

Slide6

Remember the example of Jesus in washing of the feet- if our leader-our CEO –our ambition to become – took the lowliest place- what should be ambition the? It should be to be like him-a feet washer too.

  1. II.       Do Nothing Selfish v. 3-5

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mind-set as Christ Jesus:

And yet –it is true and oh so common that in the church that people are with ambition to be known for their power, authority, money, prestige or knowledge. They even brag that they can fast for so long –or memorize so many or kings and queens bow before for their blessings. In our age some brag that storms, hurricane or a rains will stand still or move by their order.

Tyrants- dictators -they will have a tendency not to listen to others –and they love to listen to the sound of their voices- and therefore they think others are much lesser than they are –they don’t need their suggestions nor opinion-they can run the church on their own. They also think that their concerns or needs is not important. It is their grand vision of things that is important. A cathedral or a large funding or many attendees.

Slide8

Herod the Great is the NT example of a tyrant. Who funded his Temple and Palace projects with slave labour and who killed the babies below 2 years old so that he can kill the baby Messiah.

Two words- value and interest –and one word- Others – that is what is important to the Lord.

  1. III.    Form of God …Form of a servant v. 6-11

Who, being in very nature[a] God,
    did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature[b] of a servant,
    being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
    he humbled himself
    by becoming obedient to death—
even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Besides the Logos passage in the Gospel of John –this is one of the longest creedal text of the early church- and the one filled with so many profound insights in the nature of condescension or humiliation or emptying of the Christ.

Let us be clear –this is not about the following:

  1. That Jesus is just a man- He is a man but more than that
  2. That Jesus is an angel – for angels are not in a ‘form of God’
  3. That Jesus is just a demi-god- since there is no category in a Hebrew mind that a being can be worship –who is not God and just a creature. This is not Greek, Roman or Norse mythology.

I need to discuss these Greek words since it is very important and we cannot escape it.

Jesus came in :

µορφ θεοῦ- morphe theos

µορφν δολου- morphe doulos

µορθη has to be understood in the light of its dual use here – Christ was in the form of God, but took the form of a servant.

Gordon Fee thinks that the word means more than appearance, “µορφηwas precisely the right word for this dual usage, to characterize both the reality (his being God) and the metaphor (his taking on the role of a slave), since it denotes ‘form’ or ‘shape’ not in terms of the external features by which something is recognized but those characteristics and qualities that are essential to it. Hence it means that which truly characterizes a given reality.”

Slide11

We may bit understand this through the comparison to a comics superhero: Superman- who Kal El and who is Clark Kent. All the same person and yet seen by people differently … He is not pretending to be Superman nor as Clark Kent- the two are the same.

ρπαγµος, ου  m something to grasp after; something to hold on to

In Moule’s terms, equality with God means not ‘grasping’ but ‘giving away.'” -The noun is a synonym of its cognate ἁρπαγµα(‘booty’). The meaning would be ‘a matter to be seized upon’ in the sense of ‘taking advantage of it.’

In Superman –this General Zod grasping at power instead of renouncing its use and privilege.

Slide12

Yoder (Politics of Jesus) thinks that Paul suggests a contrast with the “Godlikeness promised by the serpent to Adam in the garden, which would have consisted in unchecked dominion over creation. Or perhaps it refers as well to the kind of Godlikeness claimed by Caesar.” Ridderbos (Paul) also detects a contrast with Adam.

“1) Superman’s creator, Jerry Siegel, acknowledges in an unpublished memoir that he was strongly influenced by anti-Semitism he saw and felt, and that Samson was a role model for Superman.

“Jerry also says he wrote about the world he grew up in: a Cleveland (Ohio) neighborhood that was 70 percent Jewish, where theaters and newspapers were in Yiddish as well as in English, and there were two dozen Orthodox synagogues to choose from but only one option, Weinberger’s, to buy your favorite pulp fiction.

“It was a place and time where weaklings — especially Jewish ones, who were more likely to get sand kicked in their faces by the bully down the block if not Adolf Hitler — dreamed that someday the world would see them for the superheroes they really were.

Fee argues that the meaning is not that Christ abandoned equality with God but that he did not consider equality with God to be exemplified in ‘grasping’ but in ’emptying.’ “In the cross God’s true character, his outlandish, lavish expression of love, was fully manifested.” The question at issue is ‘What does it mean to be like God?’

It is for God to be seen as powerless so that He can love us and rescue us- a world changing truth. It is in weakness that we will find strength.

“He laid aside the form of God, the splendour of divinity.” so Christ did not empty himself of anything; he simply ’emptied himself,’ poured himself out. This is metaphor, pure and simple.”

He wills not to use his divinity for his advantage. It is there-but he did not use it.

The meaning of the verb elsewhere is ‘to become powerless’ or ‘to be emptied of significance

It is like having a machine gun –and when bullied- he did not use it- and lay it down. Wow!

“The concern is with divine selflessness: God is not an acquisitive being, grasping and seizing, but self-giving for the sake of others.”

µορφν δολου- morphe doulos

Eadie understands this service to be service to God. In becoming man, the Son took on the role of Servant to the Father’s will. He took on the part of obedient man which Adam had abandoned. However, the context would seem to demand also the sense that he became a servant of all – a model for our service of one another.

Like how Adam should have been- a servant –Jesus became one. That us how man should be-a servant of the Father.

µοιωµατι νθρωπων- omiomati anthropos

“He came in the ‘likeness’ of human beings, because on the one hand he was fully identified with us, and because on the other hand in becoming human he was not ‘human only. He was God living out a truly human life, all of which is safeguarded by the expression.” Fee

σχµατι ς νθρωπος- schemati os anthropos

σχηµα, ατος  n  outward form, present form, form, likeness εὑρεθεὶς

“He showed Himself possessed of a true body and a rational soul – that body no phantom or disguise, but an organism like that of all men born of woman, and within it a soul that grew in wisdom as His body grew in stature, being subject to human emotions, and possessed of the usual powers of thought and will.

He was ‘found in fashion as a man’ by those who lived with Him, who saw Him in all aspects, and in every variety of attitude and circumstance; – His mother and kinsmen; His fellow-villagers and friends; His disciples and followers; His enemies and executioners.” Eadie

It is in this form that he obeyed… to the death and death on humiliating crucifixion.

The reward for this obedience is that His Father granted the title Lord to the Human Person Jesus Christ.

Jesus left the position of power and became a servant to His Father and to us- He valued us more than himself –and suffered so that he protect our eternal interest.

  1. IV.      Work out your Salvation v.12-13

12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,13 for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

Slide14

It is surprising that the exhortation not to grumble or complain is preface by another doctrine- eternal security and the perseverance of the saints i.e. Paul is encouraging Philippian believers that they should living as if Paul is there-or better God is there –which truer- Coram Deo – which will be discussed in chapter 3 too. Salvation doesn’t’ stop in justification but continue on sanctification. Christian living being done in front of the Living God.

To work out is dig silver from the mines – that is –the wealth is already there-but it needs to be brought to light. We are now new creation – but we need to cooperate with the Holy Spirit in this (though in His Providence and overall ruling-we will still hit our mark in the end).

Though we work- in truth it is God who works and will so that in the end we will fulfil His good purpose. Nothing is left to chance-like in chapter 1

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

We should not be idle but persevering nor a worrier in our eternal security- we are children of God- and secured in that relationship

  1. V.         Do Not Grumble v.14-18

14 Do everything without grumbling or arguing, 15 so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”[c] Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Rebels- sometimes when we are not in position of prominence –or responsibility – we tend to envy those above us-those who requested our support –our cooperation. We make it harder for them to lead… to inspire us or to do the common goals set by them or by us together. We rebel- and then we grumble and argue against them. Every action –has our brilliant idea- our criticism –our inputs.

There is a time for planning and evaluation – for hearing us – but most often we just have to follow and our job, our responsibilities, our obedience, our cooperation. But it is a common tendency to rebel against legitimate authorities- we think we know better-even in the most ordinary activities or decisions.

Obedience is what Jesus did. And if we are Christians- without Christ- I am nothing– then obedience should be also our distinctive feature- our hallmark. In the quest for the triumph of the Father’s good purpose- we should lose ourselves in obedience- 1: 21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain.

Someone can sing Christian songs, read bible devotions, own a bible- but it is wholehearted trust and obedience to his Lord and Saviour is what differentiates the real from those faking it.

Slide16

If we don’t grumble or complain against His will –we will be like… like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life.Something to behold and dream about and emulate or imitate. And what is our guide in this life? It is the Word of God…if anything will deviate from it- we will not follow. If anything will devalue the Living Word- we will stand against. But if in His word –he says that we obey- then we willingly submit to follow.

The generation of Jeus and Paul is filled with rebels and wars – and so the term“ warped and crooked generation.”[c] .

Slide17

The Zealots like Barabbas is a NT example of rebels-who want to extract justice from the Romans even if their methods were violent and wrong. During the AD 70 Fall of Jerusalem- they acted like terrorist –killing the priest and Sadducees and common people so that they can further their cause.

We don’t take the sword to rebel nor lead revolution unless it is our magistrate or legal government who will call us to do so-in defence and for righteous causes.

This is what will make Paul to be joyful even when he feels his death or execution near:

And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labour in vain. 17 But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you. 18 So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

Conclusion:

Two things –do not be a tyrant –self-important person

And a rebel –who makes the lives of your leaders harder

In all of this –It is our Lord Jesus Christ –our model and forerunner.

Facebook Random Thoughts Re: Infant Baptism

I intend to update this later -when I have other thought regarding this matter:

>My opinion is that we are all born sinners..but God in Jesus ..decided before all time ..that the atonement He will do at Calvary will cover all the sins of infants who died who died young -not only those of believing parents (which is clearly assured because of the covenant they have) but also of those who are not…precisely because in Christ – All things consists and sustained by Him -He is the Triune God. This is different from those who have not heard the Gospel but had lived and commuted actual sins in their lives. They have the natural revelation and the witness of God in their own heart..in their own humanity…What do you think?

imgres2

>They should first examine if water baptism is really the NT parallel of Abrahamic circumcision..then next is whether the New Covenant requires that seal of New Covenant(?) (since the real seal of the New Covenant is really the Holy Spirit) be applied to children of believing parents . Only then we address the issue whether there is theological need for infant baptism…I see it as a pastoral need to understand why others do it -since I- a father of 4 children understood it when my children were small- and I feel the need to be their protectors… and I know Jesus is really their Protector…

baptism

>What is very wrong is -for believing parents to neglect to provide a family environment that will encourage their children to trust and obey Jesus -and not to educate them by the whole counsel of God -and ‘trust’ only that -at one point time -they let their children be baptized…this is willful negligence.

elisha-and-son

>What believing parents should do is to teach their children to come to Jesus, like in Matthew 19:13 to 15-“Then children were brought to him that he might lay his hands on them and pray. The disciples rebuked the people, but Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” And he laid his hands on them and went away. and that the Scriptures be taught to them early on- from 2 Timothy 3:15 “… and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”

>This is about my pastoral concern and understanding on why I try to understand parents who baptizes children- “Daniel Migliori says: “While the practice of infant baptism is not absolutely necessary in the life of the church, it may be permissible. And whether it is permissible depends on whether it is being practiced as a routine social rite, or as a form of cheap, magical grace, or instead with the clear understanding that it proclaims the unconditional grace of God in Jesus Christ and calls both parents and community to responsibility for the care, nurture, and guidance of the baptized child in the life of faith, hope, and love” (Faith Seeking Understanding, 2nd ed., p. 286). Migliori’s book has an excellent discussion of the permissibility of infant baptism from a Trinitarian theological perspective (including a critique of Karl Barth’s negative position).

Update on my Health & my Family-as of May 7, 2013

Just to update you on what I am going/gone through

Last Feb 22- the night I treated my team to Shakey’s/Sitcom LAs Pinas- I
was experiencing some minor discomfort in my lower abdomen and slight
fever.

This led me to a urinalysis -with blood found through an outside clinic

Which led  me to a consultation with Dr Gatchalian (Kidney specialist..etc) to have me a ultrasound and a CT Stonogram at Cardinal Santos on the same week. After week of medicine wrt possible stones-Dr Gatchalain found out that I don’t
have stones but there’s and enlargement of my large intestines- so I am
referred to Dra Peña.

600_hl_colonoscopy_0223

Dra Pena(Gastro) -in preparation to my colonoscopy on April 20, 2013 at
Cardinal Santos -gave me 2 set of antibiotics for 2-3 weeks. One medicine I
had to discontinue because of nausea in the early morning.

hi-colonoscopy-rtr

I have to prepare for the whole night and early morning for the colonoscopy and I did not enjoy it at all. The words by Sis Sandy Cayetano helped me a lot to hold onto God’s promises. After the colonoscopy -there was 7 polyps that were burnt -and I am schedule for a follow-up this afternoon.

Before the colonoscopy – I went through clearance two doctors Cardio and
Endocrinologist. Dra Valera (Endo) have me go through a battery of blood
works to check my Sugar and Uric Acid level- after a week – I was found out
to be borderline disbetic- and my medicine was change for the uric acid as
well.

She also referred me to a Rheumatologist -Dy Sytam at Cardinal Santos -last
Friday- and gave me a maintenance medicine for my Gout.

I hope that the last of it (for I felt bad for the last two months or so)

The Life , Trials and Victory of the Messiah

This is the message I will be preaching at San Pedro CRC -June 16, 2013:

The Life, Trials and Victory of the Messiah

Read Aloud: Acts 8: 27-35

Image

27So he started out, and on his way he met an Ethiopian eunuch, an important official in charge of all the treasury of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. This man had gone to Jerusalem to worship,

28and on his way home was sitting in his chariot reading the book of Isaiah the prophet.

29The Spirit told Philip, “Go to that chariot and stay near it.”

30Then Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading Isaiah the prophet. “Do you understand what you are reading?” Philip asked.

31“How can I,” he said, “unless someone explains it to me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.

32The eunuch was reading this passage of Scripture: “He was led like a sheep to the slaughter, and as a lamb before the shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth.

33In his humiliation he was deprived of justice. Who can speak of his descendants? For his life was taken from the earth.”

34The eunuch asked Philip, “Tell me, please, who is the prophet talking about, himself or someone else?”

35Then Philip began with that very passage of Scripture and told him the good news about Jesus

Image

The Ethiopian official is travelling back and forth to Jerusalem-and is wondering if he is near now before God-and is wondering if his understanding of the Scriptures is already right (which is a common experience) and realizes  that he needs a teacher – and here comes Deacon Phillip –sent by God to teach him-and what is it all about? It is all about – it is about the Good News about Jesus

  1. I.  Introduction:

Story about a man in a bible study –from Worldwide church of God –formerly headed by Herbert W Armstrong- but experienced a reformation thru father and son –PS Tkach-and turn it from a cult to an evangelical church called- Grace Communion Intl. It was local Pacita Bible Study-This man was complaining that these evangelicals are fixated with conversion and the start of Christian life –but he said we must mature and to do what is next? Is he right –the death and resurrection and ascension of Jesus –is for beginners- and then we must outgrow this?

One of my aunts, when I was starting as a Christian 1981 I read their books , is from Seventh Day Adventist. They know Justification and even Atonement and yet they believe the Investigative Judgment that applies to believers after 1844? To them Calvary only gives Jesus a chance to treat man anew again –His Death is only beginning and it is not complete – but our sanctification must be done by ours- by works. Is this true?

Galatians 3: 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

And see Apostle Paul’s vision of the Christian life:

Philippians 3:8-16

.8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.

12       Not that I have already obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own.13 Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead,14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.15 Let those of us who are mature think this way, and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal that also to you.16 Only let us hold true to what we have attained.

Fallen Man/Redemptive Focus:

  1. Either a twice fool man-sinner and yet running away from the solution. A teenage boy -thief running from the police-thinking he will be just sent to jail
  2. Or…Self-righteous –then and even now-self-sanctification

Let us see our Confessional Statement re: Sanctification

Belgic Confession Article 4:

We believe that this true faith, being wrought in man by the hearing of the Word of God and the operation of the Holy Spirit, regenerates him and makes him a new man, causing him to live a new life, and freeing him from the bondage of sin. Therefore it is so far from being true that this justifying faith makes men remiss in a pious and holy life, that on the contrary without it they would never do anything out of love to God, but only out of self-love or fear of damnation.

Therefore it is impossible that this holy faith can be unfruitful in man; for we do not speak of a vain faith, but of such a faith which is called in Scripture a faith working through love [Gal 5:6], which excites man to the practice of those works which God has commanded in His Word.

Heidelberg Catechism

Q86:  Since, then, we are redeemed from our misery by grace through Christ, without any merit of ours, why must we do good works?

A86:  Because Christ, having redeemed us by His blood, also renews us by His Holy Spirit after His own image, that with our whole life we show ourselves thankful to God for His blessing,[1] and that He be glorified through us;[2] then also, that we ourselves may be assured of our faith by the fruits thereof;[3] and by our godly walk may win others also to Christ.[4]

WCF Chapter 13

I.  They, who are once effectually called, and regenerated, having a new heart, and a new spirit created in them, are further sanctified, really and personally, through the virtue of Christ’s death and resurrection,[1] by his Word and Spirit dwelling in them:[2] the dominion of the whole body of sin is destroyed,[3] and the several lusts thereof are more and more weakened and mortified;[4] and they more and more quickened and strengthened in all saving graces,[5] to the practice of true holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.[6]

So let us go to the Word –so that the Spirit teaches us about Jesus and his Good News.

1.Intro to Isaiah 53:

Isa 52:13-15

13 See, my servant will act wisely;

he will be raised and lifted up and highly exalted.

14 Just as there were many who were appalled at him —

his appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any man

and his form marred beyond human likeness —

15 so will he sprinkle many nations,

and kings will shut their mouths because of him.

For what they were not told, they will see,

and what they have not heard, they will understand.

A quick preview-trailer of what is the Servant is all about: Exaltation, Disfigured, His Blood for the cleansing of the nations – and their enlightenment…this is what is all about Grace-the Gospel of Jesus.

This emphasized the tremendous suffering He had to undergo-since his face will be disfigured-that even Mary will not recognized the resurrected Jesus from 3 days ago was bloodied face.

This also shows that He has a priestly duty to sprinkle the nations-details will be later.

2. His Life

Isa 53:1-3

53 Who has believed our message

and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,

and like a root out of dry ground.

He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,

nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.

3 He was despised and rejected by men,

a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering.

Like one from whom men hide their faces

he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Bring to front –a carpenter –not me nor Bro Bong –like Jesus –not with piercing eyes like what my mother told me when I was young.

Jesus did not impress people as being the best looking, the most brilliant, the most socially engaging or the most religious person they had ever met-except after His commissioning and empowering of the Spirit.

Maybe 5 ft 1- 110 lbs  -muscular and tanned by the sun.

3. His Sufferings

Isa 53:4-7

4 Surely he took up our infirmities

and carried our sorrows,

yet we considered him stricken by God,

smitten by him, and afflicted.

5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,

he was crushed for our iniquities;

the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,

and by his wounds we are healed.

6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray,

each of us has turned to his own way;

and the Lord has laid on him

the iniquity of us all.

7 He was oppressed and afflicted,

yet he did not open his mouth;

he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,

and as a sheep before her shearers is silent,

so he did not open his mouth.

What hurts the most-is that when He is suffering for us-we do not recognized it-we even turn away or mock Him.

I was asked in a Bible study-that if Jesus came here-and acted and spoke like He did before-I might be part of those of conspired to have Him killed

The heaviest sin-we can do (blackhole woman- which we can only do with those we know-and not a stranger ) –like yours and mine… He bore in that tree…

Iniquities is indirect or passive sins –result of Adamic nature-we do-while transgression are active ones. We are deliberate in our sins. And they are all violations of the Law of God.

Let us distinguish between the different meanings of the word-Law:

  1. Law of Moses
  2. Law of Sin and Death
  3. Law –as the partition of the OT Scriptures
  4. Law as a time/economy/dispensation
  5. Law as a means of salvation
  6. Moral Law
  7. Law of God
  8. Law of the Spirit
  9. Law of Christ-or His commands
  10. Works of the Law- Conscience-which is really loyalty to what we perceive what is good and true

If it is the OT Scriptures as revelation, moral law, Law of God or Christ or the Spirit or the works of the Law (Conscience) –we are still clearly under as a way of life-a way of thankfulness-but no longer of salvation.

But if it is the Law of Moses, Law of sin and death –or a time/economy/dispensation and especially as a means of salvation-we are not under anymore- or directly under unless gone through the prism/filter of Jesus-His person and works- what He had done in behalf of us.

Here and Not Yet

Stand in the left and right side of the stage –to emphasize the comparison

Most people does not know the balance. The Lord was wounded for our peace- and for our healings. Bot are true –but not totally now.

There is Resurrection power –we can know it – even with death, sickness , poverty and death- in dire situations –this is available to the Christian.

Philip 3:7-11

Php 3:7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ.

Php 3:8  What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ

Php 3:9  and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ–the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith.

Php 3:10  I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,

Php 3:11  and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.

–but unless not this situation- then there is health, wealth and security for the Christians

I must answer these questions –especially for someone who experienced the death of my nephew last year 2012 –through a drowning accident-and then this past few months –I went through medical examinations and then a colonoscopy –which I thought already have a colorectal cancer – and through many doctors-I need to address the questions –especially I went to Singapore where some of the two types of preachers are: the prosperity-health and wealth –and those who always asks for the commitment and contributions of their members.

I have to hurry up and tell you and warn you what I can.

There are those Word of Faith = like that of David Paul Yonggi- largest Korean church- A name it claim it teacher –which is a false teaching. Faith is not a magic trick-nor the name of Jesus –a magic word- an abracadabra-

Cho has said, “You create the presence of Jesus with your mouth…He is bound by your lips and by your words…Remember that Christ is depending upon you and your spoken word to release His presence.” [2]

Thus, Paul Yonggi Cho is criticized by many evangelicals for teaching that faith and prayer are methods to control God. In ‘Evangelicals Now’, April 1995, p.9, Cho is quoted, “God has a tremendous need, and we minister to his need of fellowship”.

In the name of Jesus –means based on his mediator ship/ high priesthood/ His guarantee/ his character –then I pray for it. I am not manipulating the Father for favors –but expectant of His concerns-because Jesus is my mediator.

A father knows best when to give gifts –petition him – like me –son asking for new shoes- but the shoes are old but still okay. But in the end –I might because of mercy –and then my pride –because he is mynson-I will grant him his request. So- Always ask. You don’t need to earn His favor-you are his son

I am not sure if Pastor Joseph Prince with a big church at Buono Vista-The Star Theater which holds 5000 seating capacity with 4 services and three satellites locations –is also a part of these-He is preacher of Radical grace but he acknowledge his debt to Kenneth Hagin –who is a Word of Faith preacher – except for his reliance on the Word and Grace instead of manipulations.

Meanwhile Ps Kong Hee of City Harvest Church –who always challenge his congregation for greater commitment and funds – was filed with criminal charges –misuse of charity funds 2012.

Ps Joseph Prince caution hastiness in judgment-and so these are the things happening to big churches in Singapore-and it ahs effects here inn the Philippines.

Being poor or sick or persecuted is not a sin or cause by our sins-in fact we might be righteous and still experience it –as I always read of those pastors in Muslim or Communist (North Korea & China) countries.

See this whole chapter:

2 Corinthians 4

5For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake.

6For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

7But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us.

8We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;

9persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

10We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

11For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body.

12So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you.

13It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.” With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak,

14because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence.

15All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

16Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

17For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

18So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Outwardly we are wasting away-but inwardly we are being renewed….

Romans 8:

35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

36As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

The last enemy to be conquered in His 2nd Coming of Jesus is Death and its manifestations:

1Co 15:24-26

Then the end will come, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power. For he must reign until he has put all his enemies under his feet.

The last enemy to be destroyed is death.

Our being conqueror is not because of our situations –but in spite of our situations

Victor Frankl-survivor of Holocaust:

“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how.'”

“When we are no longer able to change a situation – we are challenged to change ourselves.”

“The one thing you can’t take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of one’s freedoms is to choose ones attitude in any given circumstance.”

But it is very true that we are more than conquerors because we believe in Jesus:

1 John 5:3-5

3This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

4for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

The prism of the Moral Law had transformed through Jesus in our time-the New Covenant. For the OT Jews- he sees God through the mediatorship of Moses-and His Laws. But now the Law is seen through Jesus.

Our relationship is now based on our loyalty to the Jesus- i.e. Lordship is the better issue regarding the life of a Christian.

Example in the office-for the new employee-he does not have to do the whole things I have done for the past 2 years-He just have to do what I tell him right here , right now. He does not have to impress me that he can do all things –for he cannot. But he just have to follow –what I need him to do –right here, right now.

But if someone wants to earn his salvation or impress God through the Law-he will find that the Law is hard taskmaster. If the Law is like a 1000 items quiz –if you fail in answering right-one item/one number-did you fulfill the Law? No! It must be perfect-1000- 100% correct all the time.

I rather be under the Lordship of Jesus/ being a fellow brother of Jesus- than be under the regime of the Law.

The law is hard master –but a good servant under the Lordship of Jesus the Messiah.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta –an Albanian by birth- served her whole life the untouched caste of India-and yet near the end of her life she was asked if she is sure to go to heaven when she dies-she only answered that-I hope so. There is no security or assurance as Scriptures says for those who believe in Jesus.

3. His Death

Isa 53:8-9

8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away.

And who can speak of his descendants?

For he was cut off from the land of the living;

for the transgression of my people he was stricken.

9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked,

and with the rich in his death,

though he had done no violence,

nor was any deceit in his mouth.

Image

There was grave injustice in the trial of Jesus- done overnight-in fact before the annual Sabbath-there was haste in deciding against Him

But this injustice is not because of Him –but for His people- Israel or the elect.

His death between 2 thieves –and then using the tomb of Joseph Arimathea (a rich man) was prophesied sure and true.

He was truthful –even if it will incriminate Him-especially when He was asked under oath if He is the Messiah and Son of God.

4.Atonement and Justification:

Isa 53:10-11

10 Yet it was the Lord’s will to crush him and cause him to suffer,

and though the Lord makes his life a guilt offering,

he will see his offspring and prolong his days,

and the will of the Lord will prosper in his hand.

11 After the suffering of his soul,

he will see the light [of life] and be satisfied;

by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many,

and he will bear their iniquities.

Part of the kerygma- substitutionary atonement- The Great exchange. His righteousness for our sins.

But this is easier said than done

What is needed:

  1. He must be both God and Man
  2. He must be sinless
  3. He must suffer a horrible death
  4. He must rise from the grave
  5. He must then ascend to heaven
  6. He must reign in behalf of man

Because we are NOT;

  1. Perfect
  2. Sinless

The wording using Many is hallmark of the teaching on definite atonement. Let us read our confessions on this:

Canons od Dordt

Second Head of Doctrine

Article 2

Since, therefore, we are unable to make that satisfaction in our own persons, or to deliver ourselves from the wrath of God, He has been pleased of His infinite mercy to give His only begotten Son for our Surety, who was made sin, and became a curse for us and in our stead, that He might make satisfaction to divine justice on our behalf.

Article 3

The death of the Son of God is the only and most perfect sacrifice and satisfaction for sin, and is of infinite worth and value, abundantly sufficient to expiate the sins of the whole world.

Article 4

This death is of such infinite value and dignity because the person who submitted to it was not only really man and perfectly holy, but also the only begotten Son of God, of the same eternal and infinite essence with the Father and the Holy Spirit, which qualifications were necessary to constitute Him a Savior for us; and, moreover, because it was attended with a sense of the wrath and curse of God due to us for sin.

Article 8

For this was the sovereign counsel and most gracious will and purpose of God the Father that the quickening and saving efficacy of the most precious death of His Son should extend to all the elect, for bestowing upon them alone the gift of justifying faith, thereby to bring them infallibly to salvation; that is, it was the will of God that Christ by the blood of the cross, whereby He confirmed the new covenant, should effectually redeem out of every people, tribe, nation, and language, all those, and those only, who were from eternity chosen to salvation and given to Him by the Father; that He should confer upon them faith, which, together with all the other saving gifts of the Holy Spirit, He purchased for them by His death; should purge them from all sin, both original and actual, whether committed before or after believing; and having faithfully preserved them even to the end, should at last bring them, free from every spot and blemish, to the enjoyment of glory in His own presence forever.

Rejection of Errors

The true doctrine having been explained, the Synod rejects the errors of those:

Paragraph 1

Who teach: That God the Father has ordained His Son to the death of the cross without a certain and definite decree to save any, so that the necessity, profitableness, and worth of what Christ merited by His death might have existed, and might remain in all its parts complete, perfect, and intact, even if the merited redemption had never in fact been applied to any person.

For this doctrine tends to the despising of the wisdom of the Father and of the merits of Jesus Christ, and is contrary to Scripture. For thus says our Savior: I lay down my life for the sheep, and I know them (John 10:15, 27). And the prophet Isaiah says concerning the Savior: When thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of Jehovah shall prosper in his hand (Isa. 53:10).

Jesus is more than enough- excess of needed- but it is applied to His children –just enough for their release. Mahigit at sapat. And yes-His grace is overwhelming exceeding what is needed for his children.

There is a different teaching which says that –theoretically Jesus died for all men –but it is upto man to apply it to themselves. There is also another teaching that says theoretically Jesus death is for all –but the application is only for the elect. The other is Arminianism-the other is Amyraldianism. Both are not true. For it divides the Father from His Son and Spirit-the Trinity-in their divine purpose. It also cheapens Jesus death –as if it is not enough to purchase everything for our salvation.

Like is Jesus death – a chance to win a ticket –or a chance to win the house and lot per se?

Is it like a Father who gifted His Son a house and lot- to find out that the tax and the furnitures, the paint-the CR is still incomplete?

Will you teach how to swim –to a drowning man? No-you save him-by swimming to him and getting him by the back and getting him safely ashore. Complete!

God the Father –in eternity loves the Son-and wants to give Mankind as a gift to His Son -and they know-in any scenario of the future that man-though sinless in creation will be tempted by Satan –and fell-because of Jealousy and Pride. _And so to insure such Gift-the Son decided-before the foundation of the world-to die for them-pay for the sake of His Father’s justice-their nature-their Triune hatred of sin. And the Spirit agrees to apply this to the elect-in time-complete with everything in it- Faith, Justification, Adoption, reconciliation, Born Again, Conversion, Sanctification and final Glorification.

Justification of the many v. 12- is a term to be used repeatedly by Paul –and is not a universalistic term-like all- but it refers to numbers- but still a definite number.

Also the predestination is always initially referred to Jesus – It is His will to crush him. It is through His election –that we are elected.

Image

5. His Ascension & Reign

12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great,

and he will divide the spoils with the strong,

because he poured out his life unto death,

and was numbered with the transgressors.

For he bore the sin of many,

and made intercession for the transgressors.

His resurrection is also mentioned in v11-“ After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied”

After resurrection-came His ascension-His reign over the nations –at the right hand of God.

It is also His High Priesthood is mentioned here-part and parcel of His Atonement v12b

It is said that Muslim empire prove their power – 1000 years of destroying churches North Africa and Southern Europe and Middle East- and that their intent now is to regain that power and extent of influence.

But the Son of Man will prove their undoing –for this is his spoils-and He will not be thwarted-and this is in the future. All His foes will later see the extent of His Ruling –because of His Dying.

Application

    1. Because the Messiah is just like us-a common man- we should not be timid or shy in coming to him. He is not a superstar complexion-not a Regal baby
    2. Because He suffered felt the alienation of others-He can understand us –and knows the loneliness of the heart. Sometimes we hide these things from others-But the Messiah knows-and He understand these things. We should say these in prayer.
    3. Because He is just like us-and yet He is also our champion-our victor-our general –who went ahead in assaulting our enemy- It is appropriate to volunteer in His army –in extending His rule to others-through evangelism –through discipleship-by sharing the Good News about Jesus.

Review:

His Life is common-

and yet He died uncommon death-despised and forsaken-for our sake-for our healing-for our peace

Yet He triumped and won over sin, death and Satan in the cross-that is why he can grant –here and now-and there and in the future- salavation, Eternal life and presence of His Father in Heaven amongst His People and Angels

To End:

Rom 8:31-39

31  What, then, shall we say in response to this? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32  He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all–how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

33  Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies.

34  Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died–more than that, who was raised to life–is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

35  Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

36  As it is written: “For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

37  No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.

38  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers,

39  neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
