On why teaching tithing miss the mark

Many pastors teach tithing because they thought they are being faithful to the Scriptures and that they are following God’s Word. However, being faithful to the Scriptures needs a sensitivity to covenantal and contextual view of the passages. Not every word there in the Old Testament applies to us now. And whose law are they being faithful? Moses or Christ?

Some are really deceitful and just want the money. Judgment is reserved for them. However, some thought that this will encourage giving and support for the ministries. In fact they don’t. Tithing breeds resentment, hypocrisy, and tight-fisted stinginess. It markets and promotes Phariseeism which is hazardous to one’s spiritual health.
